KENT, Ohio - The latest GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings brought great news to Kent State University golf, with both the men's and women's programs each entering the national top-10 rankings.
Kent State's men's program is now ranked ninth in the country, while the women's team ranks 10th. Kent State joins the University of Florida as the only two schools in the nation to have both men's and women's teams ranked in the top-10.
The men have been anchored by an experienced lineup, including two top-50 ranked players. Ian Holt ranks as the 13th best men's golfer in all of the NCAA, while Chase Johnson ranks 43rd. Fellow returners Josh Whalen and Gisli Sveinbergsson have also made an impact and sit just outside the top 200 in the nation.
The women's golf team has charged into the top-10 despite a lineup that has featured three freshmen. Freshman sensation Pimnipa Panthong has broken several Kent State records en route to being ranked 11th in the nation. The Golden Flashes' two returners in the lineup, Michaela Finn and Wad Phaewchimplee, rank 58th and 85th in the nation, respectively.
