KENT, Ohio – The No. 9 Kent State men's golf team returns to Jonesborough, Tennessee for the 19th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, which begins Friday morning at the par-72, 7,147 yard Blackthorn Club.
The three-day tournament gets underway Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., while Saturday's second round will also start at 8:30 a.m., with each team beginning on No. 1. Sunday's tee times and pairings will be released at the conclusion of Saturday's round.
The Golden Flashes return to a tournament they won in 2011. Like other tournaments the team has competed in this year, the field is stacked. More than half of the 14 teams competing are ranked in the national top-65 by GolfStat or GolfWeek. Joining the Flashes are Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, host Eastern Tennessee State, Furman, Kansas State, Louisville, Missouri, Penn State, Tennessee, VCU, Villanova, No. 12 Virginia, Virginia Tech, No. 23 UNC Wilmington (UNCW).
Kent State looks to continue its successful fall. Head Coach Herb Page stated his team's goal in the fall was to reach the national top-25, and that benchmark has already been far surpassed. Kent State is ranked ninth by GolfWeek and 14th by GolfStat. Two players rank among the 50 best golfers in the nation, with Ian Holt coming in at 13th and Chase Johnson 43rd.
