
No. 13 Women's Golf In Strong Position at Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 13 Kent State women's golf team is in position to make a push for the tournament title through two rounds of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the par-72, 6,278 yard University of Texas Golf Club. Kent State is currently in second place at two-over par 578 (282-296).
The 2015 tournament champion Golden Flashes currently lead hosts No. 20 Texas by six strokes and the rest of the field by at least 12. Kent State is within striking distance of No. 12 Miami, currently leading at 15-under par.
The Golden Flashes were highlighted by two competitors in the top-five. Michaela Finn leads the way in second place at five-under par 139. Finn was one of only three golfers in the field to shoot under par in back-to-back rounds. She carded a 68 in the first round and a 71 in the second. Finn logged 11 birdies Monday.
The nation's 14th ranked golfer, Pimnipa Panthong, had her team's best round to start the day and ended in a tie for third at two-under par 142. Panthong shot a 67 in the first round without a bogey and followed up with a 75 in the second.
Fellow freshman Marissa Kirkwood finished the day in a tie for 20th at five-over par 149. Kirkwood shot a 73 in the first round and a 76 in the second, with four birdies on the day. Wad Phaewchimplee followed in a tie for 32nd with a score of seven-over par 151. She shot a 77 in the first round and improved to a 74 in the second. Karoline Stormo is fifth among the Flashes at 14-over par 158, currently tied at 61st. She made four birdies in the first round to score a 74 and ended the day with an 84.
The Golden Flashes will aim for the title Tuesday, with 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. CST. Follow @KentStWGolf for updates throughout the day.
