CLEVELAND – The Kent State University golf programs have swept this week's Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week awards, with Michaela Finn and Josh Whalen taking the honors.
Finn led the women's golf team to their first tournament victory of the fall season, with the squad taking its second straight title at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, hosted in Austin by Texas. Her score of 209 (68-71-70) ties the best 54-hole score of her career and is among the best scores in program history. She is one of only eight golfers to hit 209 or better over 54 holes and she's reached that mark twice this fall. Finn totaled 15 birdies in the tournament, seven of which came in her first round.
Whalen was the leader behind the team's third-place finish at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational, the team's third-straight finish in the top three. Whalen finished 10th overall at seven-under par 209. Whalen was under par in all three rounds, highlighted by a 67 in the second round. The 67 matched the second lowest round of his career. The finish was also his second straight top-10 individual finish this fall.
Finn concluded her fall season by playing her way into the national rankings individually. Whalen wraps up his fall at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Baylor, beginning Monday.
