No. 11 Women's Golf Ends Fall at Silver Lake Shootout

SILVER LAKE, Ohio – The No. 11 Kent State women's golf team capped off its fall by entering four individuals in the Silver Lake Shootout, held at the home of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Silver Lake Country Club.
The Golden Flashes did not register a team score, but displayed its depth with three of the four competitors in the top-20. The Flashes were led by sophomore Kelly Nielsen, who finished tied for sixth overall at 11-over par 155, five strokes off the leaders. She shot a 77 in the first round and a 78 in the second.
Second among Kent State's group was Ellen Breighner, who placed in a tie for 13th at 18-over par 162. Breighner shot back-to-back 81's in the 36-hole tournament. Kasey Nielsen finished in 19th place with a score of 22-over par 166. She started her day by shooting 80, followed by an 86 to end the day. Wrapping up the field was freshman Julia Goodson, who placed 30th at 29-over par 173. She logged an 83 in the first round and a 90 in the second.
The spring season kicks off with an alumni match on Jan. 28, followed by the debut tournament at the UCF Challenge from Feb. 5-7.
