
No. 15 Women's Golf in Second After Two Rounds of Jim West Challenge

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The No. 15 Kent State women's golf team rode a late surge to finish day one of the Jim West Challenge, at the par-72 Fazio Course at Carlton Woods, in a tie for second place at seven-under par 569 (286-283).
Entering the tournament as the defending champions, the Golden Flashes stood toe-to-toe against an elite field. For much of the day, the top seven teams were in a tight pack, but the Golden Flashes pulled away over the last three holes. Kent State trails the leaders in No. 4 Florida State by seven strokes, but alongside No. 16 Texas, the Flashes lead the rest of the field by five strokes.
Wad Phaewchimplee leads her team after two rounds with a score of five-under par 139. She currently trails Florida State's Matilda Castren for the lead by five strokes. The senior was under par in both rounds, carding a 68 to start the day and a 71 in the second round.
Freshman Pimnipa Panthong also ended the day in the top-10, placing in a tie for seventh at three-under par 141. After shooting a 74 to open the tournament, Panthong had her team's best round of the tournament in the second at 67, with seven birdies in the round. Defending individual titlist Michaela Finn is in a tie for 16th with an even par 144. Finn registered a 70 in the first round and a 74 in the second.
Two of the three freshman in the lineup round out the Golden Flashes, both in the top-50. Karoline Stormo is in a tie for 39th at four-over par 148. Stormo carded 77 in the first round and improved to 71 in the second. Marissa Kirkwood is in a tie for 50th at 150, with a 74 in the first round and a 76 in the second.
