KENT, Ohio – Kent State men's basketball coach Rob Senderoff has announced the signing of Ohio's own B.J. Duling of Newark HS.
"We're excited to announce the signing of B.J. Duling," said head coach Rob Senderoff. "He's a very versatile forward and a tremendous athlete. He can play multiple positions for us here, we see him eventually being a big wing in this league."
"I see a great future for myself at Kent State and it is the place I know I will succeed," said Duling. "Over the last few years, I have developed a strong relationship with Coach Steinburg, who played a huge role in my recruitment and the coaching staff as a whole is fantastic. They have accepted me into the family and I can't wait to play for them."
Duling enters his senior year as one of the top contenders for Ohio's Mr. Basketball. He was a preseason selection by 270Hoops as the OCC-Capitol Player of the Year and first team honoree. Last season at Newark HS, Duling was an All OCC-Capitol First Team selection, as well as an AP All-State Honorable Mention.
"He comes from a tremendous high school program, coached by one of the great coaches in the state of Ohio, Jeff Quackenbush. He also plays with one of the elite AAU programs, All Ohio Red. He comes from a tremendous family, who we've gotten to know while recruiting him. We couldn't be more excited to bring him into the Kent State family."
"BJ is the most athletic player that I have coached in my 18 years at Newark High School," stated Quackenbush. "His ability to finish around the rim is remarkable. He is continuing to work on his perimeter skills to prepare himself for the next level. He has the ability to be a tough match-up for any team. He can both score inside and shoot from behind the arc."
Brian Snow of Scout.com wrote, "Schools such as Xavier, Dayton, Iowa, and others were already heavily involved with Duling, but he decided that Kent State was the place for him. This is the first commitment for Kent State in the class, and it could be the biggest of any Mid-American Conference school in the entire recruiting cycle."
The current Golden Flash squad begins its campaign on Saturday in Youngstown, Ohio against Cleveland State at 5 p.m. in the Northeast Ohio Doubleheader Benefitting Coaches Vs. Cancer.
