Flashes Look to Break Through at Lock Haven Classic

Kent State will close out the 2016 calendar year in a one-day tournament at the Lock Haven Classic Thursday, Dec. 29. Action begins at 9:30 with most of the Golden Flashes' roster competing in 10 brackets at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Weight classes can include multiple entrants among the 13 teams. Team scores will be determined by its top-scoring wrestler at each weight. Several Flashes will compete unattached.

Last Season
Kent State finished fifth of 10 teams at last year's Lock Haven Classic as Pitt won the team title. Four Golden Flashes placed in the top three spots. Jairod James went 3-1 in a second place finish at 165.
Devin Nye went 5-1 in a third place finish at heavyweight. Chance Driscoll went 3-2 at 141.
Recent Action
The Flashes competed in three dual meets (Dec. 16, 18, 20) over five days, including a road trip to Columbia, Missouri. After sitting out duals against Gardner-Webb and Chattanooga, Jairod James improved to 4-0 in dual meets this season with a 14-1 major decision at Missouri. James improved to 14-3 overall with six bonus-point victories.
In Kent State's two weekend duals, Stephen Suglio, Anthony Tutolo and Chance Driscoll all went 2-0 against Gardner-Webb and Chattanooga. Suglio was the most dominant with a first period pin and second period tech fall. Redshirt freshman Tim Rooney earned his first career dual victory at 149 pounds against Chattanooga.

Tutolo Leading the Way on the Mat and in the Classroom
Sophomore 133-pounder Anthony Tutolo was named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week following a sixth place finish at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Tutolo's four wins were highlighted by a 9-8 comeback victory over No. 4 Earl Hall of Iowa State. A communications major, Tutolo carries a 3.6 cumulative grade point average. He has won 133-pound titles this season at the Clarion Open and the Navy Classic.
