Track and Field Set for Spire Invitational

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University Track and Field teams are set to compete in the Spire Invitational this weekend at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The action kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, and concludes Saturday, Feb. 13 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes competed in the Akron Invitational on Feb. 5-6 and had a handful of impressive performances.
Senior Taylor Farquhar picked up her third 400-meter dash victory of the season with a time of 54.70 putting her second all-time in the Kent State record book. Freshman Olivia Davis finished the one-mile run in 5:02.88 earning first place and setting a personal record. Fellow freshman Jai'Lyn Mosley won the gold division discus throw with a mark of 50.15m (164' 6"). Also, junior Chelsea Laury cemented herself in the Kent State record book by finishing seventh in the pentathlon with 3,475 points, good enough for ninth all-time.
On the men's side, sophomore Jonathan Grant had a strong showing, taking first in the 60m dash gold division (6.73) and fourth in the long jump gold division (7.08m, 23' 2.75"). Grant moved into a tie with Otis Jordan (2004) for sixth all-time in the 60m dash. William Barnes secured victory in the 200m dash gold division with a time of 21.13, good enough for third all-time. In the 800m run gold division, senior Jacob Swords took second with a time of 1:52.13.
In the field, seniors Micheal King and Jesse Oxley came away with second place finishes in the shot put and pole vault, respectively. King posted a mark of 17.6m (57' 9") while Oxley posted a mark of 5.25m (17' 2.75").
Last Year's Spire Invitational
In last year's event, junior Morgan Estes set the school indoor pole vault record and earned first place with a mark of 4.1m (13' 5.25"). Senior Danniel Thomas captured victory in the shot put with a mark of 16.17m (53' 0.75").
Junior Reggie Jagers earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 19.38m (63' "7), while William Barnes took fourth in the 200m at 21.68.
