
Barnes Breaks School Hurdles Record: Currently Leads Nation

Kent, Ohio – Kent State senior William Barnes broke Ron Andrews' 60-meter hurdle school record (7.72, 2002), Saturday Feb. 20, at the Kent State Tune-Up with a time of 7.67. Barnes' time is the fastest in NCAA Division I competitions this season and also broke the Kent State Field House record of 7.74, previously held by Renaldo Powell (2014) of Central Michigan.
In the men's 800m, senior Jacob Swords came away victorious with a time of 1:51.91. Brandon Harris was the top finisher in the 60m dash for the Golden Flashes, with a time of 6.81, good enough for second place. Taking spots four through six, respectively, was Brian Smith (6.88), Joshua Peoples (6.94), and Isaiah Conkle (7.00).
Senior Grant Onken captured fifth place in the one mile run with a time of 4:16.02, followed by freshman Kyle Brooks in fourteenth place with a personal-best time of 4:25.20. Zane Kahkonen Keppler competed in the 1000m for the first time, taking third with a time of 2:36.10.
In the field, freshman Samory Fraga finished on top in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.39m (24' 3"). In second place in the long jump was Jonnathan Grant with a distance of 7.29m (23' 11"). With a height of 1.95m (6' 4.75"), sophomore Abdul-Nasser Seidu took seventh in the high jump.
Junior Reggie Jagers captured the weight throw title with a mark of 20.08m (65' 10.5"). Coming in fourth behind Jagers was senior Micheal King with a heave of 17.87m (58' 7.50"). King also competed in the shot put, taking second with a throw of 18.4m (60' 4.5").
In the pole vault, senior Jesse Oxley took the top spot with a height of 5.2m (17' 0.75").
The Golden Flashes are set to compete in the Indoor MAC Championship at Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio on Feb. 26th and 27th.
