Track and Field Heads to Akron Invitational

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State track and field teams head to rival Akron this weekend to compete in the Akron Invitational inside Stile Athletics Field House. The two-day event begins at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, and concludes Saturday, Feb. 6, with the first events scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.

Last time Out
In their last competition, the Golden Flashes faced off against the Zips in the Akron Dual, with the Flashes men's and women's teams coming up short in the final point standings.
With a mark of 16.18m (53' 1"), senior Donovan Tolbert captured first place and broke his own school triple jump record which he had set the week prior at the Doug Raymond Invitational. Fellow senior William Barnes came away with victories in the 60m hurdles (7.76) and the 200m dash (21.26). Tolbert and Barnes were both name Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference after their performances.
Senior Taylor Farquhar and sophomore Tyler Williams took first and second, respectively, in the 400m dash and cemented spots in the Kent State record book. Farquhar (55.44) is now seventh all-time and Williams (55.6) is now 10th all-time. In the pole vault, junior Morgan Estes captured a victory with a personal best mark of 4.03m (13' 2.5").
Last Year's Akron Invitational
Senior Dior Delophont and junior Reginald Jagers turned in impressive performances at last year's Akron Invitational. Delophont captured the women's triple jump gold division title with a mark of 12.61m (41' 4.5"), while Jagers captured the discus gold division title with a mark of 58.07m (190' 6").
Sophomore Britni Phillips, junior Kyle Schlumbohm, and sophomore Abdul-Nasser Seidu also secured victories for Kent State in their respected events.
