KENT, Ohio- Nearly 70 percent of Kent State student-athletes were recognized at halftime of the Kent State men's basketball game tonight for achieving a 3.0 or higher term GPA for the fall 2015 semester.
"We are incredibly proud of the culture of academic excellence that exists at Kent State University, " said Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services Angie Hull. "Our student-athletes compete at the highest level both on the field and in the classroom and their efforts are quite evident in the academic statistics."Â
For the past six consecutive terms, Kent State student-athletes have broken department GPA records. This term was no different as the group shattered both the term and cumulative records, raising the benchmark to 3.24.Â
The record-breaking continued within the team GPA's as six teams broke their all-time team GPA record and an additional four breaking their fall term GPA records. When it comes to teamwork, 14 teams finished the semester with both their term and cumulative GPAs at 3.0 or above. Nine of those teams boasted a 3.4 or higher team GPA.Â
Also, special recognition was given to the nearly 50 percent of student-athletes who finished fall 2015 on the Dean's List (3.4 or higher) and 36 student-athletes completed the fall with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
