
Marrero and Stypinski Receive MAC Athlete of the Week Honors

KENT, Ohio – After impressive performances in Sunday's tri-meet, sophomore Ali Marrero was named Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week, and sophomore Rachel Stypinski was named Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.Â
Stypinksi turned in scores of 9.95 on floor and 9.9 on both beam and bars, securing an outright victory on floor and tying for first on beam and bars. All three of Stypinksi's scores tie career-highs and her 9.95 on floor is the top score in the Mid-American Conference so far this season.Â
Marrero also scored a 9.9 on bars, sharing victory with Stypinski and tying her career-high. Marrero is tied for the second highest mark in the Mid-American Conference thus far and her average score of 9.806 on bars is the fourth best in the conference at this point in the season. Marrero also competed on balance beam and finished tied for fourth with a season-high score of 9.825.
The efforts of Marrero and Stypinski helped lead Kent State to its highest scores of the season floor, beam, and bars as well as its highest all-around score of 196.050. Â
