Both Barnes and Tolbert captured MAC titles at the conference championships in Akron, Ohio back on February 26th and 27th.
For the second year in a row, William Barnes captured MAC titles in the 60m hurdles (7.69) and 200m dash (20.91). Barnes set the MAC Championship record and the Stile Athletics Field House record in the 60m hurdles, as well as set a new personal-record in the 200m dash. Earlier this season, Barnes set the Kent State 60m hurdles record at 7.67, the third fastest time in Division I heading into the championship.
Donovan Tolbert also broke a Stile Athletics Field House record en route to his MAC triple jump title, posting a mark of 16.04m (52' 7.50"). On January 16th at the Doug Raymond, Tolbert broke the 28-year old Kent State triple jump record, only to break his own record a week later with a mark of 16.18m (53' 1.00"), which ranks ninth in the country heading into the indoor championship. Tolbert's performance this season helped lift the Kent State triple jump team to the number one ranking in country in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) standings.
