KENT, Ohio - Kent State University Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen announced today that the university would not be renewing the contract of Head Women's Basketball Coach Danielle O'Banion.
"We appreciate everything Danny has done for the program over the past four years," Nielsen said. "Her student-athletes have done a great job in the classroom, off the court and in the community. She is a person of great character and has led our program with tremendous class and integrity."

"I have given this decision considerable thought and I felt it was necessary to move in a different direction", he added. "I believe we should compete for conference championships here, and we're going to find a coach who can do that."
In four years under O'Banion, the women's basketball team compiled a 21-98 overall record and a 11-59 record in conference. In 2015-16, the team finished with a 6-23 record (3-15 conference) and was a No. 11 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Nielsen said a national search for the Golden Flashes head coach would begin immediately.
