
Gymnastics Lands in Iowa Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Kent State gymnastics team was selected to compete in the NCAA Iowa City Gymnastics Regional hosted by the University of Iowa as announced by the NCAA on Monday, March 21st. All regional competitions will take place on Saturday, April 2nd at their respective locations.

Kent State finished the year at 10-4 (6-0 MAC), with a regional qualifying score of 195.595, which ranked second in the Mid-American Conference. The Flashes captured the MAC regular season title, going undefeated against conference opponents and finished fifth at the MAC Tournament Championships.
The 30th ranked Golden Flashes will be joined in Iowa by #1 Oklahoma, #12 Nebraska, #13 Arkansas, #19 Iowa, and fellow MAC competitor #35 Central Michigan. The field will also include a total of 12 athletes from Ball State and Western Michigan competing in the all-around competition or as specialists.
The top two teams and specialists from each region, as well as the event winners (if they are not on an advancing team) will advance to the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships in Fort Worth, Texas on April 15-17.
The Golden Flashes' last regional appearance as a team was in 2014, when they finished 4th at the Baton Rouge Regional hosted by LSU. Last year, sophomore Rachel Stypinski competed as an individual at the Columbus Regional, finishing tied for second on the floor exercise (9.9) and tied for 13th on the balance beam (9.8). Â
