
Speers Named MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Holly Speers has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Speers homered in her final five at-bats of the week to break the NCAA Division I record for most consecutive home runs. The record spanned four games and came against three different pitchers. The final dinger gave Kent State a 9-0 walk-off victory over Central Michigan in Saturday's second game of a doubleheader. She has also drawn six walks since the streak began to reach base in 11 consecutive plate appearances.
For the week, Speers batted .714 with five home runs, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, seven walks, a 2.857 slugging percentage and a .857 on-base percentage.
The opening weekend of thee Mid-American Conference season saw Speers go 4-for-4 with four home runs, nine RBIs, six runs scored and six walks to lead Kent State to a sweep of the West Division favorite Chippewas.
Kent State has earned a conference-best five MAC weekly accolades this season. Junior Ronnie Ladines has been named Pitcher of the Week twice and senior Arika Roush and junior Maddy Grimm have each been named Player of the Week.Â
Kent State returns to action on Wednesday in doubleheader action at Robert Morris beginning at 3 p.m.
