Thirty-One Flashes Named to Indoor Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State track and field teams had 31 student-athletes named to the 2016 Academic All-Mid American Conference Teams as announced by the conference office on Monday, March 28th.

A total of 200 student-athletes from around the conference received the Academic All-MAC honor, including 156 women and 44 men. Kent State led the women's side with 22 selections, while Eastern Michigan led the men's side with 17 selections. Kent State's men's team had nine selections which ranked 2nd amongst the men's teams.
Morgan Bing and Sam Tollerud were two of nine student-athletes to record a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
In total, 31 Golden Flashes received the honor, 22 of which were women – Kristen Bergmeyer, Morgan Bing, Ada Nicholson-Burley, Alyssa Carlton, Dior Delophont, Roseanne Erickson, Morgan Estes, Taylor Farquhar, Robin Foster, Olivia Gaus, Chelsea Laury, Rebecca Leppelmeier, Jai'Lyn Mosley, Jorian Ordway, Lauren Pannell, Britni Phillips, Victoria Ross, Caroline Sauers, Jesse Slingluff, Samantha Tollerud, Taylor Wickey, and Tyler Williams – and nine of which were men – Samuel Allen, Justin Bailey, Isaiah Conkle, Grant Onken, Jesse Oxley, Nick Schank, Kyle Schlumbohm, Abdul-Nasser Seidu, and Connor Whelan.
At the conference championships, the women's team came away in 3rd place, finishing with a total of 87 points. Roseanne Erickson was the only individual winner for the women's team, taking the long jump title with an indoor personal-record mark of 6.24m (20' 5.75").
The women's 4x400m relay team consisting of Ordway, Williams, Farquhar, and Laury broke the Kent State record, turning in a time of 3:41.14, taking second place overall.
Delophont came away 2nd place finishes in the high jump and triple jump, posting marks of 1.79m (5' 10.50") and 12.76m (41' 10.50"), respectively.
On the men's side, the Golden Flashes came away in 3rd place, with three individual MAC Champions being crowned on the second day of the competition. William Barnes (60m hurdles – 7.69 | 200m – 20.91), Donovan Tolbert (triple jump – 52' 7.50"), and Roosevelt Dotson (high jump – 6' 11.50") all claimed individual titles for the Flashes.
Barnes set the MAC Championship record and tied the Stile Athletics Fields House record in the 60m hurdles, as well as set the the Stile Athletics Field House record in the 200m dash. Tolbert set the Stile Athletics Field House triple jump record en route to his MAC title.
In the pole vault, senior Jesse Oxley took 2nd at a height of 5.20m (17' 0.75"), while Justin Bailey finished 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.00m (49' 2.50").
Barnes and Tolbert each qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and were named Second Team All-Americans for their performances, Barnes taking 15th in the 60mH and Tolbert taking 12th in the triple jump.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
