KENT, Ohio – It took some time to get well ahead, but Kent State (17-6) posted a seven-run 8^th inning to capture its first home win of the season in a 9-1 contest against Lake Erie College (5-13).

The Golden Flashes took advantage with a run in the 4^th on singles by Dylan Rosa, Pete Schuler and Tim DalPorto, who earned the game's first RBI. DalPorto also earned what would be the game-winning RBI when he walked with bases loaded. Rosa also scored that run as he led off with a single and Conner Simonetti and Schuler walked behind him.

Two runs was all Kent State would need for the victory, but they broke the game wide open with a big 8^th frame. Schuler started things with a double before DalPorto walked and Mason Mamarella reached on a bunt to load the bases with one out. Alex Miklos came up with the first big blow, sending home two runs on a base hit to left. After Zach Beckner was issued a walk to load the bases back up, Zarley Zalewski cleared them with a double over the center fielder's head. Rosa traded places with Zalewski on a double of his own before coming in to score the team's ninth and final run on a passed ball.

The only blemish for the Flashes was a solo homerun off the Storm's bat in the 7^th inning.

Connor Wollersheim earned his second win of the season by going 5.0 shutout innings in the start with six hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Chris Martin followed with 3.0 quality innings, allowing just one run on three hits while walking one and striking out two. Eli Martin finished the game by successfully working out of a jam in the 9^th.

Rosa went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and three runs scored in the contest. Beckner, Schuler and DalPorto all had two hits while DalPorto also walked twice and had two RBI. Zalewski batted in three.

The Golden Flashes get back to action on Wednesday at Pittsburgh in a 3 p.m. game.
