Flashes Sweep Eagles With 7-3 Sunday Victory

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Kent State (26-10, 9-3) completed its fourth series sweep of the season and first in conference play by taking down Eastern Michigan (13-20, 5-4) 7-3 on Sunday afternoon.

After Zarley Zalewski walked in the 3^rd, Conner Simonetti blasted a ball more than 400 feet over the wall in dead center to give the Golden Flashes a 2-0 lead.

A walk, stolen base and base hit got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the 3^rd, but Dylan Rosa put Kent State back in front by two when he hit a solo shot out to left field in the 5^th.

Two more runs were tacked on in the 6^th. All action happened with two outs, as Pete Schuler and Sam Hurt both singled to put two on. After Hurt stole second, Luke Burch hit them both home to make it a 5-1 game.

Simonetti decided to take another ball deep in the 7^th after the Eagles hit a solo homerun of their own in the 6^th. Bases were loaded in the 9^th for Alex Miklos to sacrifice in Kent State's final run.

Eastern Michigan scored its final run on a pair of base hits in the 9^th.

Kraus had another strong start, going 6.2 innings with two runs, three hits, two walks and a career-best eight strikeouts. Tim Faix followed in relief, striking out the final batter of the 7^th inning then getting another strikeout in a 1-2-3 8^th. Zach Spangler finished the game, striking out the final batter.

The dynamic duo of Simonetti and Rosa accounted for four RBI and three homeruns to both now lead the team on the season with nine round-trippers each. Simonetti finished the day 3-for-5 with two bombs and a single.

The Golden Flashes will return home to host Penn State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. They will continue Mid-American Conference play next weekend in the first East Division matchup at Ohio.
