The Mid-American Conference announced Monday that Kent State swept the East Division's weekly awards. Andy Ravel was named the Pitcher of the Week while Conner Simonetti was named Player of the Week as both helped Kent State to a perfect 4-0 week.
Ravel had a strong start on Saturday at Eastern Michigan to help lead the Flashes to a series-clinching win en route to a series sweep. He went 7.0 innings in the start while only giving up two runs. He did not walk a batter in the contest while striking out eight Eagles. Ravel was also strong defensively as he also had a putout and two assists while on the mound.
Simonetti had a big bat this week, hitting three dingers to share the team lead with nine homeruns on the season. He started the week with a RBI double against Youngstown State. On Friday at Eastern Michigan, Simonetti went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI, including a homerun and a sacrifice fly to bring a runner home. He finished his big week with a two-run shot on Sunday that went more than 400 feet out to dead center. A solo shot later in the game put him at 3-for-5 with 3 RBI in the finale. He also played all four games at first base where he had 27 putouts, was a part of two double plays and he did not record an error.
The duo and their teammates will return to the diamond this Wednesday when Penn State visits Schoonover Stadium for a 6 p.m. game.
