
T&F Concludes Day One of Jesse Owens Classic; Swords Competes at Virginia Challenge

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Kent State's track and field programs concluded day one of the Jesse Owens Classic on Friday, April 22, while Jacob Swords represented the Golden Flashes at the Virginia Challenge.

In the championship division of the women's discus, Jai'Lyn Mosley captured second place with a mark of 47.96m (157' 4"), followed by Rebecca Leppelmeier in seventh place at 43.32m (142' 1"). In the college/open division of the women's discus Ada Nicholson-Burley finished in second place with a personal-best distance of 48.52m (159' 2"). In fifth place behind Nicholson-Burley was Victoria Ross at 43.36m (142' 3").
In the men's discus championship division, Reggie Jagers III earned a second place finish, posting a mark of 56.28m (184' 7"). Douglas Moorer Jr. came away in fourth place with a mark of 53.49m (175' 6"). Micheal King captured fourth in the shot put championship division with a season-best 18.70m (61' 4.25"), while David Paliscak took 3rd in the shot put college/open division with an outdoor personal-best mark of 16.72m (54' 10.25").
Maya Brown competed in the javelin, taking ninth place with a personal-best mark of 36.89m (121' 0").
On the track, Grant Onken finished the 1,500m in 3:50.23 taking fourth place, followed by Zane Kahkonen Keppler in 27th with a personal-best 4:05.51, and Samuel Allen in 32nd at 4:08.75. On the women's side, Taylor Wickey was the top finisher for the Golden Flashes in the 1,500m, taking 20th place with a time of 4:37.74. In 22nd place just behind Wickey was Caroline Sauers (4:38.19), followed by Olivia Davis in 24th at 4:39.76.
In the 5,000m run, Nick Schank posted a time of 15:28.52 finishing 23rd as Brandon Avers took 26th with a time of 15:32.11.
Virginia Challenge
At the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., Jacob Swords competed in the 800m run taking 16th with a time of 1:51.08.
Action from the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio resumes Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. with the men's pole vault.
