Strong Finish Puts Flashes in Front at MAC Championships

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Golden Flashes posted a strong finish to the day to take over the lead at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday.
Two players birdied 18 before the final golfer, Josée Doyon, chipped in from the bunker for an eagle to cap off a 3-under day for the team. Kent State is 3-over overall in the event and leads Toledo by three strokes. Ohio is in third place at 17-over.
Wad Phaewchimplee set a new MAC Championship record with a 68, 4-under par for the lowest single round ever at the event. She is in 4th place entering the final round at 1-under, three strokes off the individual lead.
Every Golden Flash sits in the top ten entering the final round of play. Josée Doyon had a 1-over day and is in 7th place. Amira Alexander shot a 71 in the second round to be 2-over and in a tie for 8th place. Also in 8th is teammate Michaela Finn who was 1-over in round two. Taylor Kim is tied for 10th place at 3-over after also shooting 1-over on Saturday.
Kent State leads in par five scoring at 8-under and is second in the field on both par threes and par fours. The team leads with 37 birdies. Finn leads on par five scoring and is tied for third with Phaewchimplee with nine birdies each. Doyon's eagle on 18 was one of just three through the opening two rounds of the event.
The Golden Flashes will try to close out their record-breaking 18th consecutive MAC Championship title on Sunday in the final round. They will tee off starting at 10:30 a.m. and will be paired with Toledo and Ohio. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com.
