CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State's William Barnes was named MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend at the Campbell-Wright Open, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Barnes earns his fourth athlete of the week award of 2016 after capturing the 200m dash title while aiding Kent State's 4x100m relay team to victory this past Saturday at Akron.
In the 200m, Barnes turned a personal-record time of 20.69, the fastest time in the MAC this season and the sixth-fastest time in school history. With his time, Barnes currently sits 20th in the NCAA East Qualifying Region.
In the 4x100m relay, Barnes ran the opening leg, getting the Golden Flashes out to an early lead as they would take a commanding victory with a time of 40.12.
At the Drake Relays earlier this season, Barnes qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics, shattered his own 110m hurdles school record with a blazing time of 13.41, the second fastest time recorded in the nation this season.
Kent State's track and field programs are headed to Toledo this weekend as they compete in the 2016 MAC Outdoor MAC Championships, scheduled for May 12-14.
