CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's At-Large Teams
Kent State's Tyler Buckwalter (Mill Hall, Pa.) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 Men's At-Large Team on Thursday. One of two wrestlers on the 10-member all-district team, Buckwalter will go on the Academic All-America ballot.
The 165-pound senior becomes just the third wrestler in program history to claim all-district honors and the first since 1997, joining Joe Boardwine and Tom Manning.
Saving his best season for last, Buckwalter earned a bid to the NCAA Championships in March, after going 14-4 in dual meets. His long list of accolades this year include:  the athletic department's Merle Wagoner Award, the team's Joe Begala Award, being named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, MAC Wrestler of the Week, MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week and earning spots on the NWCA All-Academic Team and the Academic All-MAC Team.
A physical education major, Buckwalter will graduate this weekend with a 3.94 cumulative grade point average. Â He helped Kent State record the fifth highest cumulative GPA in the nation this year.
The Golden Flashes won their final nine dual meets of the season to finish 15-3 with a No. 15 ranking in the final NWCA Coaches Poll. Buckwalter also contributed team points to Kent State's 16th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
The Flashes' eight straight years with at least one All-American is the 10th longest active streak in the nation.
