Kent State sophomores Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) and Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) were named to the 2016 Men's Golf Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team Thursday. Two of the conference's best golfers throughout the season, Holt and Johnson also excelled in the classroom.
A business management major, Holt is coming off of a top five finish at the NCAA Kohler Regional. It was his third consecutive top five placement to close out the season, which included a tie for second place at the MAC Championships.
Holt and Johnson both earned spots on the All-MAC First Team and were named to the MAC's all-tournament team.
A marketing major, Johnson was named MAC Golfer of the Year after carrying the lowest stroke average in the conference. He finished in the top five at five tournaments this season and is in the Top 100 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
The duo helped Kent State win its seventh MAC Championship in eight years and led the Flashes to their 24th NCAA Regional appearance since 1989.
A total of 23 student-athletes were named to this year's Academic All-MAC team. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Recipients are eligible to be named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes, which will be voted upon by conference faculty reps.
