Former Kent State defensive lineman Nate Terhune (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was invited to join the Kansas City Chiefs at their rookie minicamp Sunday night. In four seasons, Terhune displayed the ability to play several positions on the defensive line and made major contributions on special teams.
In the summer of 2014, Terhune was named "Toughest Player in College Football," by NFL.com for his quick return following a broken leg during his sophomore season. Known for his intensity on every play, he earned the team's Read Award last spring for hard work and dedication beyond the call of the duty.
Last season, Terhune was second on the team in both tackles for loss (9.5) and sacks (6.5). He recovered a fumble for a touchdown against Delaware State, giving him the rare distinction of being credited with both an offensive and defensive touchdown in his career.
With three career carries on fake punts, Terhune had runs of 31 and 44 yards along with a legendary 61-yard touchdown run. He made 107 career tackles with 23 tackles for loss.
Terhune was also tabbed as one of Bruce Feldman's Top Freaks in College Football for his unprecedented flexibility as a lineman.
Kent State has had a tradition of NFL success by undrafted free agents. The list includes James Harrison, Josh Cribbs, Josh Kline and most recently Casey Pierce, who joined the Detroit Lions last season.
