The American Baseball Coaches Association released the 2016 ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams with Kent State's Eric Lauer landing a spot on the First Team.
After already being named a First Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and D1Baseball, Lauer is now considered a consensus All-American, joining John VanBenschoten as the only Golden Flashes to achieve such recognition. VanBenschoten was a consensus First Team All-American in 2001.
Lauer was selected 25th overall in the 2016 MLB Draft after posting the lowest ERA by a starting pitcher since 1979, a miniscule 0.69. He was a finalist for the Dick Howser Award, a finalist for College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year, a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and was honored as the National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball. His athletic success was mirrored by his academic accomplishments as Lauer graduated this spring with a 3.77 GPA and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
