Flashes Continue Streak of Academic Excellence

KENT, Ohio-Â With the spring semester in the books, Kent State has proven its commitment to academic excellence as the athletic department recorded its highest annual grade point average in program history (3.212).
Thanks in part to a record-shattering 57 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA, the department recorded its third highest term GPA (3.183) and second highest cumulative GPA (3.223). The previous record for the number of students with a 4.0 in one semester was 41.
Nearly two-thirds of Kent State student-athletes (259) posted a term GPA of 3.0 or higher, while 44% had a 3.4 or higher.
"We have a very driven group of student-athletes that continuously push their limits," said Greg Glaus, associate athletic director for academic & compliance services. "The amount of student-athletes with a 4.0 speaks volumes about how much our athletic department values academics and the level of student-athlete our coaches continue to recruit."
For the second semester in a row, gymnastics logged the highest GPA of all teams (3.647), their highest spring term GPA in program history. Women's golf had the second-highest team GPA and their third highest in program history at 3.593.Â
Women's soccer also turned in its third highest GPA in program history (3.570), with seven student-athletes scoring a perfect 4.0.Â
Baseball and men's track & field each recorded a 3.207 GPA for the semester, the highest in-season mark for both teams.Â
Women's track & field/cross country saw 44 student-athletes with 3.0 or higher, including 12 perfect 4.0's.Â
More than a third of the football team finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, while field hockey had its fourth consecutive term with a team GPA of 3.4 or higher.Â
Eight wrestlers found themselves on the Dean's List this semester, including two on the President's List (4.0) alongside four from softball and two from women's basketball.
Men's basketball posted its third highest GPA in program history, while volleyball recorded its third highest spring term.
Kent State honored 64 Golden Flashes with their diplomas at the spring commencement. This year's graduating class boasted a 3.264 GPA, collectively. Â
