KENT, Ohio – For the last five weeks of field hockey play in the Mid-American Conference, no one has been as good defensively as Kent State's Andrea Rinehart. After finishing the 2015 regular season with three-straight Defensive Player of the Week honors, Rinehart was named the 2015 MAC Tournament MVP. Now to begin the 2016 season, she has earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her season-opening performance this past weekend.
Rinehart got off to a strong start this season, helping Kent State start 2-0 for the first time since 1995. Rinehart had seven saves in the two games, allowing just one goal in each match. Michigan State's only goal on Friday came by way of a perfectly placed penalty stroke while Villanova's goal on Saturday came in the first half before Rinehart and the defense shutdown the Wildcats the rest of the way.
The Golden Flashes will be back in action Labor Day weekend as they make a trip to the West Coast for three games.
