
Women's Golf Fifth at Schooner Fall Classic

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University women's golf team played two rounds of the Schooner Fall Classic Saturday and enter the final round in fifth place with an eight-over par score of 576 (292-284).
Kent State, ranked fourth in the latest Golfweek national poll, is currently in the mix of a tough field, leading the likes of LSU, Iowa State and Notre Dame, while trailing fourth place Oklahoma, the hosts, by eight strokes. Florida State currently leads the field at 19-under par.
Three out of the five Golden Flashes competing are freshman, and two currently lead the pack. Reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Pimnipa Panthong and Marissa Kirkwood are both tied for 16th at an even par 142. Panthong shot a 72 in the first round and a one-under par 70 in the second. Kirkwood's scores were flipped, with a 70 to start and a score of 72 in the second round.
Michaela Finn will enter the final round in the top-25, logging a score of three-over par 145. Finn recorded a score of 75 in the first round, but improved to one-under par 70 in the second. She had five birdies in the second round.
Wad Phaewchimplee also stepped up after round one, where she scored a 76. On her second 18, Phaewchimplee shot a 72, with an eagle on the ninth hole. She will enter the final round with a six-over par score of 148, tied for 37th. Three strokes behind in a tie for 43rd place is freshman Karoline Stormo. She shot a 75 in the first round and a 76 in the second, ending her day at 151.
The final round of the tournament will be played Sunday if weather allows. If the course in unplayable on Sunday, the third round will stay scheduled for Monday. Check back with KentStateSports.com after the last round for final results.
