FARMVILLE, Va. – Five minutes into the overtime period, Shannon Talbot was subbed into the game and made her time on the turf count, scoring off a pass from Krysti Lober to give the Flashes a 3-2 overtime win at Longwood.
The victory improves Kent State to 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. Longwood drops to 6-4 and 0-1 in the MAC.
Scoring didn't get started until Longwood took an early lead at the 28th minute of the match. After the break, Ines Delpech rifled in a straight shot at 40:05 to tie the game. Jessica Nesbitt and Silvia Figa Malgosa earned assists on the play.
With just a minute and a half left in the game, Lober scored what looked to be the game-winner on another corner opportunity, assisted by Figa Malgosa and Madison Thompson. However, the Lancers had other plans, scoring a minute later on a corner play to send the game into overtime where Talbot played the hero.
The Golden Flashes led in shots 12-8, with Delpech leading the way with three. Andrea Rinehart had two saves in goal.
The next game for Kent State is Friday when they travel for a non-conference matchup at Ohio State.
