
Men's Golf Finishes Third at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Kent State University men's golf team finished third overall at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Arizona with a score of 24-under par 828 (264-279-285).
The third-place finish is the team's second consecutive top-five finish against some of the best competition in the country. Kent State also finished ahead of multiple nationally ranked teams for the second time in as many tournaments. No. 8 LSU won the tournament at 41-under par 811.
Ian Holt led Kent State, finishing seventh with a three-round score of eight-under par 205. He shot a 70 Sunday for his third straight round under par. Holt finished his last 25 holes of the tournament with just two over par.
Chase Johnson wrapped up a top-10 finish in a tie for ninth at six-under par 207. Johnson matched his score from Saturday at one-under par 70, with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to secure a top-10 spot.
Josh Whalen and Gisli Sveinbergsson each finished tied for 18th with an overall score of two-under par 211. Sveinbergsson recorded a 72 on Sunday, matching his first round score. He finished the tournament with back-to-back birdies. Whelan shot a two-over par 73 Sunday, with birdies on 15 and 17 to end the weekend.
Bjarki Petursson finished two-over par at 213, tying for 27th overall. He shot a 73 Sunday to end the tournament. Competing individually, Tyler McHugh finished tied for 79th with a 14-over par score of 227. He shot a 76 on Sunday.
The Golden Flashes will head back home and compete locally in their next tournament. Kent State is scheduled to play in the Cleveland State Invitational at the Barrington Country Club in Aurora, Ohio from Oct. 3-4.
