
Both T&F Programs Fall to Zips in Dual

AKRON, Ohio- Kent State's men's and women's track and field programs both fell to the Zips Friday night at Stile Athletics Field House in the annual Akron-Kent State Dual. The women's team dropped their dual by a score of 82-69, while the men dropped their dual 86-64.
David Paliscak captured first place in the men's shot put with a personal-record mark of 17.78m (58' 4"), which moves him passed Aaron Crabtree (2011) for ninth all-time in the Kent State record book. Paliscak also competed in the weight throw, taking second with a heave of 17.19m (56' 4"). Taking first in the weight throw was Reggie Jagers III with a top mark of 20.66m (67' 9").
Brian Smith also secured a spot in the Kent State record book, finishing second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.79, moving him into ninth all-time. Matt Tobin was victorious in the men's 400m posting a time of 47.61.
Golden Flashes took both of the women's throws titles as Gabrielle Figueroa won the weight throw with a mark of 18.74m (61' 5"), while Rebecca Leppelmeier won the shot put with a mark of 13.99m (43' 11.25"). Leppelmeier also took second in the weight throw at 18.71m (61' 4").
Both of the 3,000m runs went Kent State's way. Brandon Avers ran a personal-record 8:48.20 to win the men's race and Rachel Slingluff ran 10:10.64 to win the women's race. Behind Slingluff in spots two through five was Olivia Davis, Morgan Arena, Morgan Bing and Madison Spreitzer.
Jorian Ordway tallied seven points for the women's team, winning the 200m dash (25.06) and taking second in the 60m dash (7.78). In the women's 800m, Lauren Burnett finished second (2:16.10), Hannah Fleck took third (2:16.21) and Sarah Pack took fourth with a PR time of 2:16.21.
Ryan Looser took second in the men's 60m hurdles, finishing two one thousandths of a second behind the leader. Richard Dahome finished third at 8.35. In the women's 60m hurdles, Daniels took third with a time of 8.87. Daniels also took third in the 200m with a time of 25.11.
In the men's jumps, Samory Fraga took second in the long jump (24' 5"), AJ Stevens took second in the triple jump (47' 7.75") and DJ Ohlson took third in the high jump (6' 6"). TJ Lawson finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 7.19m (23' 7.25"), followed by Looser in fifth at 6.6m (21' 8"). Mitchell Kubicki was Kent State's top-finisher in the men's pole vault taking fourth with PR 4.77m (15' 7.75").
In the women's jumps, Britni Phillips took second in the triple jump (38' 11"), Cayla Carey took third in the long jump (18' 9.25"), and Lauren Pannell took fourth in the high jump (5' 5.75"). Sam Tollerud captured second in the women's pole vault at a height of 4.05m (13' 3.5").
In the last events of the night, the women's 4x400m relay team of Ordway, Chelsea Laury, Burnett and Tyler Williams took first with a time of 3:47.34, while the men's team of Tobin, Lawson, Kubicki and O'Leary took second with a time of 3:20.98.
Kent State returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 as they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the Eastern Michigan Triangular.
