Men's Track and Field Wins EMU Triangular

Ypsilanti, Mich. – Kent State's men's track and field out together a strong all-around performance at Saturday's EMU Triangular, scoring 117.5 points to defeat Eastern Michigan (103) and Central Michigan (74.5).
The Golden Flashes won a total of nine events to earn the win at the triangular meet. Five of their victories were in track events and four were in field events.
In the men's pole vault, freshman Christian Champen cleared a personal-record height of 5.25m (17' 2.75"), which ties Jamie Clymer (1998) for second all-time. Champen is 0.25" away from Jesse Oxley's (2014) school record of 17' 3.0".
A week after setting a personal-record in the 60m dash, Brian Smith ran 6.76, setting a new PR and moving passed Kevin McKinney (6.77, 1998) for eighth all-time in the Kent State record book. Smith captured another victory in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 21.76.
Richard Dahome, Andrew O'Leary and Matt Tobin captured Kent State's other two victories on the track. Dahome matched a PR in the 60m hurdles, running 8.22 to claim his victory, while O'Leary won the 800m with a time of 1:55.36. Tobin was victorious in the 400m for the second week in a row as he finished with a time of 49.76.
Kent State dominated in the throwing events again this weekend as Reggie Jagers III captured his third weight throw title of the indoor season and David Paliscak captured his third shot put title of the season. Jagers won with a season-best mark of 21.12m (69' 3.5"), which is half an inch short of his PR and ranks 11th in the nation. Paliscak finished with a top mark of 17.2m (56' 5.25") to secure his victory and also finished sixth in the weight throw at 16.17m (53' 0.75").
Walter Petzel finished runner-up to Paliscak in the shot put with a PR of 16.52m (54' 2.5") Trevor Detillion recorded a pair of top-five finishes, taking fourth in the shot put (52' 6") and fifth in the weight throw (53' 5.5").
In the triple jump, AJ Stevens leaped 15.21m (49' 11") to capture first place, followed by Abdul-Nasser Seidu in fourth at 13.01m (42' 8.25"). Seidu also took fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.9m (6' 2.75"). Finishing in third ahead of Seidu in the high jump was DJ Ohlson with a mark of 2.0m (6' 6.75").
TJ Lawson and Samory Fraga finished second and third in the long jump with marks of 7.18m (23' 6.75") and 7.13m (23' 4.75").
Brandon Avers recorded a PR in the 3,000m with a time of 8:36.12, as he finished second overall. In third place behind Avers was Clark Bookman also with a PR at 8:38.15. Josh Gogan was the top-finisher for the Golden Flashes in the mile, taking seventh with a PR of 4:24.06.
Kent State heads back to back Stile Athletics Field House next weekend for the Akron Invitational, which is scheduled for Feb. 3-4.
