
Tollerud Sets School Pole Vault at EMU Triangular

Ypsilanti, Mich. – Junior Sam Tollerud of Kent State's women's track and field program set a new school record in the pole vault as she jumped 4.20m (13' 9.25") at the EMU Triangular. As a team, the Golden Flashes totaled 98 points, finishing ahead of Central Michigan (78) but behind Eastern Michigan (115).
Along with setting the program record, Tollerud's winning mark of 13' 9.25" is tied for eighth-best mark in the nation. Tollerud also owns Kent State's outdoor pole vault record at 13' 10", which she set last year.
Joining Tollerud in the Kent State record book is Mi'Angel Daniels who took first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.55. The freshman's time is the fourth-fastest in KSU history and ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference.
Talia Falco also made her mark in the Kent State record book as she took first in the high jump at a height of 1.7m (5' 7"), which puts her in a five-way tie for the eighth-best mark in school history. Falco also took third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.72m (38' 5.5"). Taking second in the high jump behind Falco was Lauren Pannell with a mark of 1.65m (5' 5").
Golden Flashes claimed the top spot in both of the throwing events as Gabrielle Figueroa won the weight throw at 19.88m (65'2.75") and Danniel Thomas captured the shot put title at 17.5m (57' 5"). For Thomas, it was her first collegiate competition since the 2015 season after redshirting last season.
Taking second and third in the shot put was Rebecca Leppelmeier and Ada Nicholson-Burley with marks of 14.03m (46' 0.5") and 14.01m (45' 11.75"), respectively. Leppelmeier also threw in the weight throw taking third at 17.44m (57' 2.75").
Jorian Ordway was Kent State's top-finisher in the 200m dash, finishing second with a time of 24.95. In the 400m, Tyler Williams also secured a second-place finish, crossing the finish line in 57.11 seconds. Kayla Seymour recorded a PR time of 7.8 seconds in the 60m dash to finish fifth overall.
Rachel Slingluff set a PR in mile, clocking in a at 5:06.61 which was good enough for fifth place. Olivia Davis finished seventh in the mile with a time of 5:12. 39. Hannah Fleck captured third in the 800m, tying her season-best time of 2:14.56.
Swann Phelippeau and Caroline Sauers took fourth and fifth in the 3,000m run with times of 10:12.98 and 10:37.77, respectively.
Cayla Carey earned a third-place finish in the long jump, leaping 5.69m (18' 8"), followed by Chelsea Laury in seventh at 4.9m (16' 1"). Carey also finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.89m (35' 8.75").
Ordway, Lauren Burnett, Laury and Williams teamed up to take second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:47.07.
Kent State heads back to back Stile Athletics Field House next weekend for the Akron Invitational, which is scheduled for Feb. 3-4.
