CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald has been named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday (Oct. 11).
She continued her historic season in net with shutouts in both of Kent State's matches last week. McDonald did not allow a goal despite facing 24 shots against rival Akron and Buffalo, as she leads the MAC in goals against average (0.33) and shutouts (4) during conference play. With the two victories, the Golden Flashes improved to 5-1-0 to move into first place in the MAC standings with 15 points. McDonald's six shutouts are two off Kent State's single-season record and her 0.62 goals against average and 33 career wins both rank second in program history.
The biology major maintains a 3.959 GPA.Â
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Kent State returns to action on Friday when it travels to Northern Illinois.
