LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kent State softball team has been honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as an Easton/NFCA All-Academic Top 10 Team for the 2016-17 academic year, the association announced Tuesday. The Golden Flashes finished with the 10th highest GPA (3.568) among all Division I programs in the country.
During the spring semester, the Golden Flashes recorded an outstanding 3.630 team GPA. Six student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 and five additional student-athletes earned a 3.900 or better.
The Flashes have finished in the top 30 in nine of the last 10 years, and have five Top 10 finishes during that time.
The rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions.
Kent State joined national power Alabama as the only Division I teams in the Top 10, that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
