- Kent State last faced a non-Division I opponent in the regular season last year, defeating local Portage County institution Hiram, 111-55. The 56-point win margin is the third highest in program history, and the highest since 1998. Kent State had 10 blocks, reaching double digits for the first time in program history.
- Ohio Christian enters the week at 1-4 and will face Goshen College the night before this game. Ohio Christian is counting this matchup as an exhibition. Jalen Hearn has led the Trailblazers in scoring at 17.6 ppg.
- Tony Stockman is in year six as the head coach of Ohio Christian. He was named Mr. Basketball for Ohio in 2000 and went on to play for Ohio State.
