Kent State officially begins its 2017-18 season Friday, Nov. 3, in unorthodox fashion. The Golden Flashes will host dual meets against Lake Erie College and Mercyhurst North East inside the M.A.C. Center, beginning at noon. Admission is free. The Flashes will then immediately pack up and head to Clarion, Pennsylvania, for a 7 p.m. dual meet with Utah Valley.
Taking part in its first competition in program history, Kent State Tuscarawas will also be competing against Lake Erie and Mercyhurst North East, as action will be taking place on two mats in the M.A.C. Center.
Live video of Kent State's two duals at the M.A.C. Center can be seen free on Boxcast, while live audio of the Flashes' two duals can be heard on The Golden Flashes Radio channel on iHeartRadio with Matt Miller.Â
The Flashes third dual of the day will take place at Clarion High School. The matchup will also be Utah Valley's third dual of the day as the Wolverines open with West Virginia and Clarion Friday afternoon.
"We're excited to start to the season and show our improvement from last year," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "We're looking to get off to a fast start and get our confidence up."
Kent State's lineup is expected to have returning starters at seven weight classes. Redshirt freshmen Nick Monico (149) and Dylan Barreiro (174) are expected to make their varsity debuts with the Flashes, while Boise State transfer Will Bardezbain (125) will don the blue and gold for the first time.
"We have everybody back from last year, but we'll have three new guys in the lineup who will get a chance to prove what they can do," Andrassy said. "We'll be looking for consistency and effort through the final whistle."
