Culver Honored as Scholar All-America First Team Selection

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kent State soccer's Paige Culver has been named to the Scholar All-America First Team as announced by United Soccer Coaches as announced on Thursday afternoon. She becomes the second Golden Flash in program history to awarding the honor as Abbie Lawson was named Third Team last year. Culver was selected to the All-American Third Team earlier this year and is the first player in program history to be named All-American and Scholar All-America in the same season.

The Junior from Oakville, Ontario carries a 3.59 GPA and is a finance major. Culver was the only player selected from the Mid-American Conference.Â
"Another prestigious honor for Paige and our program," said Kent State head coach Rob Marinaro. "She has worked so hard in the classroom and on her game and are so proud to have her in our program. Paige is an excellent representative of Kent State University."
Culver put together one of the best campaigns by a defender in program history this year and was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She also garnered All-Midwest Region First Team and All-MAC First Team honors. Culver led the Golden Flashes defense, which tied the school for most shutouts in a season (11).
The defense ranked first in the MAC in goals allowed (16), goals against average (0.75) and shutouts (11). Culver started all 21 matches and played 1930 minutes, which led the squad. This year Kent State won the MAC Regular Season Championship posted a 9-2-0 league record and second consecutive MAC East Division crown.
Players on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the All-America Luncheon on January 20, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention.
