
Thomas Shatters Multiple Shot Put Records at Kent State Tune Up

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's Danniel Thomas threw 18.32 meters (60' 1.25") in the shot put Saturday at the Kent State Tune Up, breaking multiple records including the Jamaican national record, the Kent State indoor track and field record and the Kent State Field House record.
The Westmoreland, Jamaica native and 2016 Olympian, unleashed her record-breaking mark of 18.32m on her second attempt of the day, as she now ranks eighth in the world and second amongst Division I athletes. On the list of all-time collegiate performances, Thomas' mark ranks ninth.
Taking second and third in the women's shot put was Rebecca Leppelmeier and Ada Nicholson-Burley with marks of 14.34m (47' 0.75") and 14.09m (46' 2.75"), respectively.
In the women's weight throw, Gabrielle Figueroa picked up her third victory of the year with a winning mark of 19.20m (63' 0"). Taking third-place was Leppelmeier at 17.48m (57' 4.25"), followed by Victoria Ross in seventh at 15.45m (50' 8.25").
The men's weight throw title went to Reggie Jagers III who set a career-best mark of 21.24m (69' 8.25"), which leads the MAC and ranks 17th in the nation. David Paliscak took seventh-place with a mark of 17.16m (56' 3.75") followed by Trevor Detillion in ninth at 16.27m (53' 4.5"). Paliscak and Detillion also competed in the shot put, taking fifth and 12th with throws of 17.05m (55' 11.25") and 15.18m (49' 9.75"), respectively. Walter Petzel captured 11th in the shot put with a heave of 15.53m (50' 11.5").
Both the men's and women's pole vault title were taken Golden Flashes as Christian Champen (5.0m) and Sam Tollerud (4.0m), respectively. Kyle Schlumbohm finished fourth on the men's side at 4.85m (15' 11"), with TJ Lawson (4.55m) tying for eighth and Mitchell Kubicki taking 10th. Maria Horrigan (3.7m) took fourth behind Tollerud, followed by Ally Thompson (3.7m) in sixth.
Lauren Pannell claimed the women's high jump title, posting a top mark of 1.7m (5' 7"). Talia Falco came away in a tie for fifth at 1.65m (5' 5"), followed by Chelsea Laury in eighth-place with personal-record of 1.65m (5' 5"). Laury also set PRs in the 60m hurdles (8.87) and the 200m (25.29). In the men's high jump, Abdul-Nasser Seidu captured fifth at 2.0m (6' 6.75") and DJ Ohlson took seventh at 1.95m (6' 4.75").
Samory Fraga set a personal-record in the men's long jump of 7.52m (24' 8.25"), finishing in second-place and moving into eighth all-time the Kent State record book.
Swann Phelippeau recorded the tenth-fastest women's 3,000m time in Kent State history, finishing in 10:02.32 to win the event. Finishing in third behind Phelippeau was Rachel Slingluff (10:24.03), followed by Morgan Bing in eighth (10:49.83) and Robin Foster in ninth (10:50.69). Madison Spreitzer took eighth in the women's 5,000m run with a time of 18:41.87.
In the women's 60m dash, Kayla Seymour (7.76) took second, Bennisha Nunn (7.79) took third, Mi'Angel Daniels (7.81) finished fifth, Samantha Shaver (7.83) took sixth and Cayla Carey (7.94) took eighth. In the women's 200m, spots two through five went to Jorian Ordway (24.7), Seymour (25.21), Laury (25.29) and Carey (25.59).
Ordway, Tyler Williams, Seymour and Lauren Burnett comprised the women's 4x400m relay team that took first with a time of 3:50.7. Burnett also ran in the 800m, taking third at 2:12.86.
Taking third-place in the men's 60m hurdles was Richard Dahome with a time of 8.24, while Matt Tobin finished fourth in the 200m dash at 22.16 seconds.
Olivia Davis captured fifth in the women's mile with a time of 5:03.12, followed by Jaimie Adams in eighth (5:06.) and Sarah Pack in 10th (5:07.97). In the men's mile Sam Goodman (4:25.90) finished 14th and Josh Gogan (4:32.80) finished 25th.
The Golden Flashes travel to Eastern Michigan next weekend to compete in the 2017 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
