
Figueroa and Jagers Take Home Titles on Day Two of MAC T&F Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Kent State continued to dominate the throwing events on day two of the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships as Gabrielle Figueroa captured the women's weight throw championship and Reggie Jagers III captured the men's weight championship. The Golden Flashes women's team finished third-place overall with 60 points and the men's team finished fourth-place overall with 66.5 points.

The Akron Zips swept the men's and women's championships as the men' s team scored a total of 160.5 points and the women's team scored 145 points.
At the conclusion of the meet, Reggie Jagers was named MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year, Danniel Thomas was named MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year and TJ Lawson was named MAC Men's Freshman of the Year.
Jagers claimed the men's weight throw title with a personal-record mark of 22.01m (72' 2.5") which ranks fourth in Kent State history and currently ranks twelfth in the nation, qualifying Jagers for the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships.
David Paliscak and Trevor Detillion finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the shot put, with marks of 17.62m (PR) and 16.23m.
Figueroa secured her first-ever MAC Championship with a mark of 19.58m (64' 2.75"), nearly two feet farther than rest of the field.
In the men's heptathlon Golden Flashes took three of the top six spots as TJ Lawson finished second with 5,411 points, Mitchell Kubicki took fifth with 4,794 points and Ryan Looser took sixth with 4,777 points. For his efforts this season.
AJ Stevens finished runner-up in the men's triple jump with a personal-record mark of 15.5m (50' 10.5") which moves him passed Mike Lowe (50' 9.25", 1995) for fifth all-time. Abdul-Nasser Seidu took seventh behind Stevens with a jump of 13.97m (45' 10"). Christian Champen also secured a runner-up finish as he took second in pole vault at a height of 5.22m (17' 1.5"). Kyle Schlumbohm came away with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault having cleared the bar at 4.77m (15' 7.75").
Kent State came away from the high jump with 5.5 points as Seidu finished fourth at 2.03m (6' 7.75") and DJ Ohlson tied for fifth at a height of 1.98m (6' 5.75"). In the women's high jump Lauren Pannell took seventh at a height of 1.68m (5' 6").
On the track, Tyler Williams captured a fifth-place finish in the women's 400m dash with a time of 55.92 seconds. In the 200m dash, Jorian Ordway finished seventh with a time of 25.17.
Brandon Harris ran 6.88 seconds en route to fifth place finish in the men's 60m dash while Richard Dahome took sixth in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.22 seconds. Matthew Tobin took seventh in the men's 200m dash at 22.85 seconds. In the men's mile, Grant Onken recorded a time of 4:16.19 to finish in fifth-place.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Ordway, Olivia Gaus, Lauren Burnett and Tyler Williams took fourth-place with a time of 3:47.40 and the men's 4x400m team of Kubicki, Onken, Dahome and Josh Gogan took fourth with a time of 3:39.03.
Kent State's athletes that finish in the top-16 of the national rankings will qualify for the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for March 10-11 in College Station, Texas.
