
Soccer Adds Eight with 2017 Signing Class

KENT, Ohio - Kent State women's soccer Head Coach Rob Marinaro announced Thursday the names of eight student-athletes that signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Kent State soccer program prior to the 2017 campaign.Â
The eight newest Golden Flashes are Rachel Ernst, Karly Hellstrom, Maddie Holmes, Vital Kats, Isabelle Mihail, Kloe Moore, Faith O'Neill, Cameron Shedenhelm.
Rachel Ernst
Midfielder – 5'4
Loveland, Ohio – Loveland
Ohio Elite Soccer Academy ECNL
Garnered NSCAA All-America, All-State First Team and ECC Player of the Year honors as a senior… Part of a senior class that holds the Loveland High School record for career wins (66)… Holds individual records for games started (81), games played (81) and most consecutive games started (81)… Aided Loveland High School to the Division I state finals and a 19-1-1 record as a junior… Played club soccer for Ohio Elite Soccer Academy ECNL… Ernst was a member of the National Honors Society, earning High Honor Roll with Distinction all four years of high school… Intended major at Kent State is biology pre-med.

A name synonymous with Kent State soccer, Hellstrom is the younger sister of former Kent State alum, Jenna Hellstrom… A versatile athlete, Hellstrom participated in basketball, cross country, soccer track & field and volleyball before choosing to play soccer at Kent State… Was a three-time Female High School Athlete of the Year… As a junior, Hellstrom was the Northern Ontario champion in the 400m run… Scored 22 goals as a freshman… Hellstrom was a member of the Ontario REX/EXCEL Program, playing for the Ontario Provincial Team… Intended major at Kent State is exercise science.
Maddie Holmes

Named 2016 NSCAA All-American, GCSCA Division II Player of the Year and Morning Journal Athlete of the Year (2015 and 2016)… For her career, Holmes registered 52 goals, 25 assists and 129 points, leading Bay High School four sectional championships, one regional championship and one state semifinal appearance… Holmes was a four-year letterwinner in basketball and soccer and a two-year letterwinner in lacrosse… With the Cleveland Whitecaps, Holmes won the 2016 US Soccer Club State & Regional Championships… Intended major at Kent State is physical therapy or athletic training.

Kats has been a member of the Canadian national youth soccer program since 2014… Represented Canada at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016 and at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016… Part of Canada's silver-medal winning team at the U-20 Championship in Honduras… Kats played club soccer with GS United, winning the Ontario Women's Cup Championship… Kats also played with the Ontario Provincial Team… Intended major at Kent State is business.

Two-time All-State First Team selection… Aided Pickerington North High School to three regional championships and a record of 65-11-6 over her four years… Recorded at least 14 goals every season at Pickerington North, finishing her career with 60 goals and 40 assists… Along with four varsity letters in soccer, Shedenhelm earned a varsity letter in basketball… At the club level, Shedenhelm was a member of the Ohio Premier ECNL Program… Member of National Honors Society… Her father, John played baseball for Kent State from 1985-1990… Intended major is undecided
