The Mid-American Conference announced Monday that Kent State's Luke Burch and Joey Murray were named the East Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their performances this past weekend.
Burch was a huge spark for the Flashes this weekend as the team took the series at the College of Charleston. He started the weekend going 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double and two walks in a 13-5 victory. Despite a team loss, he had his best game on Saturday as he finished 4-for-5 with a homerun and two doubles. Burch rounded out the series with a 3-for-5 performance with another double. He also was perfect defensively and added in an outfield assist and stolen base. His average jumped 79 points and he now leads the team by hitting .390 this season.
Murray had another great start for the Flashes this weekend as he threw a 5.0 inning shutout while allowing just two hits to lead Kent State to a 5-0 win and series-clinching victory on Sunday. Murray allowed just three base runners in the performance as the Cougars hit just .118 against him. He sat down nine batters to earn his first win this season. The sophomore now boasts a 1.86 ERA in four starts.
Kent State will be back in action this weekend at Western Carolina.
