The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced the Division I National Academic Squad members on Wednesday with Kent State having a record 18 student-athletes honored, the second most of any school in the country. The Golden Flashes also had four named Scholars of Distinction.
Aileen Ahlers, Jessica Apelt, Ines Delpech, Silvia Figa Malgosa, Jamie Fries, Berta Jover Llorens, Kortney Keller, Krysti Lober, Alex Luxardo, Alexis Madeira, Jessica Nesbitt, Maddie Pope, Laila Richter, Melanie Scibilia, Karri Stadulis, Shannon Talbot, Hannah Weidman and Courtney Weise were all named to the 2017 Division I National Academic Squad. Madeira was recognized as a four-year recipient. The accolade honors student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the fall 2016 season. Brown led all schools with 19 selections while Kent State, Bucknell and Hofstra all had 18.
Additionally, Ahlers, Delpech, Figa Malgosa and Stadulis were named Scholars of Distinction along with 110 other students nationwide for having a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater.
The recognition is proof that Kent State field hockey continues to continue to raise its level of excellence, both in the classroom and on the playing field. The Golden Flashes are the winners of the last three consecutive Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles and are viewed as a formidable opponent in NCAA postseason play year after year.
The team is currently in its spring season with its next game to be played at Ohio on April 8.
