
Laury and Lawson in Action on Day One of Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – Kent State track and field's Chelsea Laury and TJ Lawson were action Wednesday at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. After day one of the esteemed competition, Lawson is in seventh-place in the decathlon and Laury is 18th place in the heptathlon.
Lawson finished in the top-10 in four of the five decathlon events and finished the day with a total of 3,883 points. Lawson's best event of the day was the high jump in which he placed second with a mark of 2.03m (6' 8"). Lawson's second-place finish in the event propelled him from 13th to seventh-place in the decathlon standings.Â
In the long jump, Lawson's top mark of 7.12m (23' 4.5") landed him a sixth-place finish in the event. Five events remain in the decathlon which is set to resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET.Â
Laury recorded personal-records in the 200m dash and the shot put as she finished the day with a total of 3,130 points. Laury finished the 200m with a time of 24.92 seconds, which was good enough for 11th-place in the competition.Â
In the shot put, Laury threw 10.81m (35' 5.75"), extending her outdoor personal-record by nearly three feet. Three events remain in the heptathlon which is set to resume tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET.Â
