WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kent State (7-4) was unable to end the weekend on a good note as they lost 4-2 to Quinnipiac (5-5) on Sunday afternoon.

The 1st inning went by quietly with action picking up in the 2^nd. The Bobcats had bases loaded with one out in the top of the frame, but Joey Murray induced two flyouts to put the bats in the Flashes' hands. It gave Kent State some momentum as they were able to take a 1-0 lead. Dom Iero began the inning with a walk before Tim DalPorto and Patrick Ferguson singled for the tally.

In the 3^rd, Murray struck out the first two batters then got another fly out to keep Kent State on the good side. The Golden Flashes got a runner on third with one out in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't add to their lead.

That, then, favored Quinnipiac as they were able to break through and score two in the 4^th. A double, passed ball, sacrifice fly, two singles and a fielder's choice allowed the runs to come home.

Kent State scored another run in the 5^th to tie the game at two. Reilly Hawkins started things off with a bunt single and stole base. A fly ball moved him over to third and allowed him to score on a sacrifice fly by Luke Burch.

However, a two-run homerun by the Bobcats to start the 6^th would decide the game.

The Golden Flashes' seven hits were scattered throughout the lineup. Murray finished with seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings. He gave up two earned runs, six hits and two walks. Jared Skolnicki pitched the next 3.0 innings and suffered the loss with two runs, four hits and three strikeouts. Zach Spangler finished the game with a quick three outs.

Kent State will travel back south next weekend for a three-game series at College of Charleston March 10-12.
