
Golden Flashes Head to Akron for Northeast Ohio Quad

Kent State's track and field programs will stay close to home this weekend as they partake in the Northeast Ohio Quad hosted by the University of Akron at Lee R. Jackson Track Complex April 14-15.

The two-day event featuring Akron, Ashland, Kent State and Youngstown State gets underway Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the women's hammer throw followed by the men's hammer throw to conclude competition for the day. On Saturday, the field events get underway at 10 a.m. with the women's javelin and the running events are set to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the women's 3000m steeplechase.
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Flashes had strong all-around performance at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala., excelling in several field events and women's relays in particular.
Danniel Thomas earned Mid-American Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors after she recorded the nation's top discus (58.03m) and shot put (18.13m) marks of the week, taking first-place in both events and resetting the Kent State shot put record.
Reggie Jagers III garnered MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors following his runner-up finishes in the discus and hammer throws where he recorded marks of 58.85m (193' 1") and 61.14m (203' 7"), respectively.
Also capturing first-place finishes was Christian Champen in the men's pole vault and AJ Stevens in the men's triple. Champen recorded the fifth-best pole vault mark in Kent State history at 5.10m (16' 8.75") and Stevens recorded the seventh-best triple jump all-time at 15.35m (50' 4.5").
The women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams were the highlight of the weekend on the track for the Golden Flashes as they each turned in the second-fastest times in the Kent State record book. The 4x100 team of Kayla Seymour, Jorian Ordway, Mi'Angel Daniels and Bennisha Nunn took sixth-place with a time of 45.73, while the 4x400 team of Tyler Williams, Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Lauren Burnett took third at 3:40.43.
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Thomas leads the MAC in the shot put and discus while ranking second and fourth, respectively, in the national rankings.
• Jagers is eighth in the country and second in the MAC in the discus and also leads the MAC in the hammer. In the women's hammer throw, Gabrielle Figueroa leads the MAC at 59.52m (195' 3").
• Other Golden Flashes currently leading the MAC include Richard Dahome- men's 110 hurdles (14.53), Sam Tollerud- women's pole vault (4.07m), and TJ Lawson- decathlon (7,497 points). Lawson also ranks eighth in the country in the decathlon.
• Mi'Angel Daniels time of 13.87 in the 100m hurdles has her ranked third in the conference and sixth all-time in the KSU record book.

The Golden Flashes stay in-state for next weekend's competition as they travel to Ohio State University for the Jesse Owens Classic April 21-22.
