
Track and Field to Compete at Auburn and Ohio State

A majority of Kent State track and field's student-athletes will make the trip down Interstate 71 to Ohio State for the Jesse Owens Classic this weekend while the women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams will head to Auburn for the War Eagle Invitational.

The Jesse Owens Classic gets underway from Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday at 2 p.m. with women's hammer throw. The field will feature schools from around Ohio and surrounding states including several Mid-American Conference schools; Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Ohio and Western Michigan.
After excelling at the Crimson Tide Invitational two weeks ago, the women's 4x100m (Kayla Seymour, Jorian Ordway, Mi'Angel Daniels and Bennisha Nunn) and 4x400m (Tyler Williams, Ordway, Taylor Farquhar and Lauren) relay teams will compete against some of the nation's best at the War Eagle Invitational hosted by Auburn at Hutsell-Rosen Track. The women's 4x100m is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. EST and the 4x400m is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. EST. These seven athletes may also be competing in several individual competitions throughout the weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Flashes came away from last weekend's Northeast Ohio Quad with a total of seven event victories, four of which came on the track and three came from field events. The women's 4x100m relay team (mentioned above) captured their second win of the season, posting a winning time of 45.87 seconds.
Kent State's other victories on the track came from Morgan Arena in the 3,000m (10:14.58) Hannah Fleck in the 800m (2:12.55) and Caroline Sauers in the 1,500m (4:42.25).
Christian Champen was the highlight of the weekend for the men's team as he tied for first-place in the men's pole vault with a personal-best mark of 5.25m (17' 2.75") which ranks third all-time in Kent State history.
Kent State received a strong showing in the women's throwing events as Gabrielle Figueroa won the women's hammer at 59.39m (194' 10") and Jai'Lyn Mosley won the discus at 49.39m (162' 0").
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• As it stands, Golden Flashes currently lead the MAC in seven events.
• Danniel Thomas leads the conference in the shot put (18.13m) and discus (58.03m). Nationally, Thomas ranks second and fourth, respectively in those events.
• Golden Flashes continue to lead the MAC in the hammer throws as Gabrielle Figueroa (59.52m) leads on the women's side and Reggie Jagers III (62.05m) leads the men. Jagers also ranks 11th nationally and second in the MAC in the discus at 59.01m.
• TJ Lawson's point total of 7,497 in the decathlon is tops in the MAC and ranks 12th overall nationally and first amongst freshman competitors.
• Sam Tollerud, who captured the women's indoor pole vault MAC Championship, is tied for the best mark in the MAC so far this season at 4.16m.
• The MAC leader in the 110m hurdles is Kent State's Dairius Ragland with a time of 14.40 seconds.
